Wuthering Heights📚
Wuthering Heights is Emily Brontë's only novel. It was first published in 1847 under the pseudonym Ellis Bell, and her sister Charlotte Brontë edited the second edition after Emily's death. The title of the novel is taken from an estate on the Yorkshire Meadows, a historic town in Northern England ('Wuthering' in Yorkshire means 'a changeable atmosphere') The novel tells the story of the passionate, possessive love between the protagonists, Catherine, and Heathcliff, and how this passionate love leads to their own destruction and the destruction of others around them

This novel is a pillar of English literature and has been critically acclaimed since its publication for its horrific scenes of mental and physical cruelty. Although her sister, Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre, was considered the best of the Brontë sisters, critics later considered Wuthering Heights to be their superior work. Furthermore, the novel has inspired numerous subsequent works of art, including cinema, radio, and songs (most famously, Kate Bush's song of the same name), as well as opera and ballet. In 1956, it was adapted into a film entitled The Stranger, directed by Fatin Abdel Wahab and Kamal El Sheikh, and starring Yehia Chahine, Magda, and Kamal El Shenawy
Summary of the novel
The story begins with Mr. Lockwood, a new resident of Thrushcross Grange, a large house on the Yorkshire moors, which he has rented from Mr. Heathcliff, near Wuthering Heights. On his first night at Heathcliff's house, Mr. Lockwood meets Cathy, Heathcliff's daughter-in-law and the daughter of Catherine, Heathcliff's lover. He has a terrible dream: the ghost of Catherine Earnshaw, begging him to let him in. Mr. Lockwood asks the housekeeper, Mrs. Nelly Dean, and here begins the story of the past thirty years, told by the matron who has known this family, seen its successive generations, known their characters, and been very close to them
